First Kata, A Beginning

A Beginning, Kihon Kata
(One of the very first movements taught to karateka starting out)

Foundation, beginning, flow and stillness
As aye
Be not the first to attack
Block down gedan
Like a wave, a stone dropped
with no ripple
and punch
Prepare a new defence, execute an attack
Now back on yourself
Another affront defended
Head on
Onwards, three times punching
From both sides danger
Is met with block and counter…
Before with balance and moving as one
You end where you begun
Learning always be ready
Danger comes from all
Never sleeps, never keeps still.
