Waiting for the Light to Go

Waiting for the Light to Go

Red, yellow, purple and orange wild flowers,

Surround the well-spaced out roe deer

Brown necks and ears visible to some

As the cars bleed through on a concrete ribbon

Still and profane the blades of the wind turbine

Are stilled against a bruised sky of blue and grey

I can’t help thinking if it was from their bloodline

                                           The deer

That I saw weeks ago a live then lifeless hind

Dance in terrifying closeness then die

On this same road

                                             of concrete and tar.
