A Thousand Black Eyes

A Thousand Black Eyes

The sun and heat blasts of the summer

Gave way to biblical rain

The explosion of frogs covers our housing estate

The Great Escape and tragedy is at the main road

Tiny black eyed beings hop to oblivion

Formally where our new houses are there were marshes

Living systems and a home for these citizens.

We cast them up in boxes used for work lunches

Transport them in our huge paws to the new ponds

Small dividends to the earth mother we wronged

The delicate limbs with five toes are striking

They make an impact like the seeing tiny, clear eyes

And how hopeless and powerless are we?

Fast cars and trinkets dress up the small specks

We are biding on a small planet in infinite dark

Hopping in and on in faith.
